  • Book an Escape Room - Escape rooms can be a fun way for the family to have an adventure together. Even better, they will have options for a variety of ages and preferences.
  • Check Something Off of Her Bucket List - Most moms have a bucket list of things they wish they could do. This is your chance to take her to enjoy one of these items and mark it off her list.

Simplify Her Day

Many moms are doing more than they probably should on a given week. Taking a bit off of her plate can be a great way to make her smile. With so much to keep up with, moms can quickly get overwhelmed. Finding small ways to lessen the load and let her relax can be huge. Here are a few ways to simplify her day for a special Mother’s Day.

  • Let her have some time away - This might mean setting up coffee with her friends, heading out shopping, or locking herself in the room with snacks and her favorite movie. The goal is to give her a chance to get away and refresh a bit.
  • Take over her least favorite chores for the day - Does she dislike dishes? Is laundry the bane of her existence? Take over these chores for the day and give her a chance to decompress a bit. You could also work with the rest of the family to clean the house while she enjoys a nap or her favorite show.
  • Let her have the fun! - Parenting is a balance of hard stuff and fun stuff. For one day, take over the hard stuff and let her have fun with the kids. For one day, take over all the diapers, cranky toddlers, and aggravated teens so that she can just enjoy the fun stuff with her kids.

*Pro-Tip - Take over dinner! If you really want to simplify her day, take over dinner (and the dishes/clean-up afterward that come with it.) We’ve got a great recipe for you to try.

Have a Non-Mother Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day isn’t happy for everyone. There are some who have lost a mom, who have dealt with a loss of a child, or who have other negative emotions connected to the day. For them, Mother’s Day can be downright miserable, so doing a traditional Mother’s Day is not going to work. We want you to know it is completely okay to change things up and do a Non-Mother Mother’s Day. Here are a few ways to observe without focusing on the hard parts of the holiday.

  • Grieve if you need to - For those who have a negative connection to Mother’s Day, there may be a need to allow some time to grieve. This is normal and healthy. Set aside some time and give yourself the space you need in this time.
  • Plan a fun distraction - Is there something you love to do? Finding a fun distraction can be a good way to feel special without focusing on the heart of the day. This can include going out to a movie, enjoying a favorite local attraction, or going shopping with friends.
  • Skip the Mother’s Day traditions - Many Mother’s Day traditions can be hard. Things like Mother’s Day cards, balloons, gifts, and other mementos may not be what a person needs. Instead, opt for things that celebrate somebody (or yourself) as a person who matters in this world.

*Pro-Tip - Plan a grill out with friends and cook up a delicious dinner. Here is a recipe you should definitely try!
